Yeah it was/is but I will look up the torq specs and check it. Gotta get the ring bolts specs and the carier bolts so.... Als Peter reminded me that my pin had a bad spot on it and we had to file it. The new one is solid and does not have the machineing done.

Ok Tonka, I put it all back togather and still have the same problem. I pulled the rear drveline and put a helper bar on my socket and was able to turn the pinion nut a lil' but not much. There seems to be excessive play when turning the the pinion back and forth 1/2 inch of "slop" or so. Also while tighting the nut I noticed the drivers lower arm is in need of replacing. An ideas? Thanks

Sounds like your gears are not shimed right or you lost a bearing

Beings it's an aussi I just torqued everything to specs. That was the main reason I went with a aussie so I would not have to deal with backlash etc. Guess I should of..
Found this on jeep forums~ The TJ D44 does NOT use a crush sleeve... in fact you CAN'T because the solid spacer is incorporated into the pinion. You change pinion bearing preload with shims. This is a GOOD thing because on the trail you can break a u-joint and wipe out your pinion yoke, remove the pinion nut, pull the yoke off, replace it, and simply torque a NEW pinion nut to spec(200ft-lbs). No worry about changing the pinion bearing preload or the nut coming undone on it's own because you had to reuse a crush sleeve(if you use a NEW pinion nut!).

Quick lockers have alot of play in them (atleast the ones I have had did) and it's not backlash of the gears. So you pulled the driveline and it still locked up when in reverse?

I puled the drive line and it still did it. Seems to do it when its cold then after a few feet and bnding 3~5 times it did not do it till it cooled down a few hours later. I'm going to keek the driveline out n try to get the local shop that did my regear in the front take a look at it. Woo Hoo more $$$$ out the door

My thought was that the pinion is the only thing that was not removed, if backlash was checked, maybe would have noticed a bearing problem at the pinion.

I stopped in at the local tranny shop and he says it sounds like the pinion bearing is bad and possibly is binding with the carrier. He says there is a lg and small, lg for foward and small for reverse. He would not give me a quote and said as cheap as $200 up to $1200+..... Depending on whats all wrong with it. Pat I'll give ya a call tomorrow, thanks
