I had to get a new pinion because zack and I decided mine was crap. I am running 4:56 gears in it. The guy at Ram light truck told me that if I need shims to do this. Any body know anything about that? Also, last time zack and I worked on it, we had trouble getting the whole assembly back on the diff. Was I doing something wrong, or just not putting enough into it?

Well ya probably don't want to run a used ring and pinion that are not a matched set. And yes you need shims to reset the pinion depth.

On a trail only rig, it probably doesn't matter that much that the gear, & pinion aren't matched. It will probably make noise, but you won't be going fast enough to have a real problem. Will be a bitch to get a good pattern though. I got 14 bolt set up pieces from Padden drive train, on Killingsworth.

Well I am going to put my faith in the wheeling gods and see what happens. If it doesnt work out, I will deal with that when it comes up.
